Elvis and Buddy had many things in common. Both were born in the deep south and raised in poverty. Early contact with country music and rhythm and blues stimulated their creative musical spirits.
They were good friends and met up fairly often. In Oct 1955 Buddy and Bob Montgomery opened at the Cotton Club before Elvis came out. Buddy Holly also opened for Elvis that year at the Fair Park Coliseum.
In 1986 Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly were both named charter members of the newly established Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
